Iwa is a consultant with the Firm and the Alternate Lead of the Policy Advisory Group. She also advises the Dispute Resolution Group.Her areas of professional competence and research interests include Banking and Financial Law and Regulation, Corporate Finance, Regional Integration in Financial Markets and Financial Technology.
Iwa holds a Bachelor of laws (LLB) degree from University of Westminster, a Masters degree(LLM) in InternationalBusiness Law (Merit) from King's College, University of London and a PhD from Queen Mary,University of London.
She is a senior lecturer in financial law and regulation atthe Royal Docks School of Business and Law, University of East London. She has also lectured at Queen Mary, University of London where she currently serves as an external examiner on the Banking and Finance Law Programmes. She has previously worked at the UK Government Legal Service and the African Development Bank.
Iwa has published widely in the field of international financial and economic law and her list of publications include a book, Financial Regulation in Africa: An Assessment of Financial Integration Arrangements in African Emerging and Frontier Markets, published by Ashgate in 2012 and numerous articles.She is a reviewer for numerous book publishers including Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. Her other roles include, Director at the British Institute in East Africa and visiting lecturer at University of Westminster Business School.
She is currently working on a research project on Financial Technology (FinTech) and Regulatory Technology (RegTech) in Africa, where she is assessing, amongst other things, the benefits and implications ofmobile payments and virtual currencies, as well as the AML/CFT implications of such new payment products and services.
She also speaks regularly at international conferences and academic events on a range of African regulatory and policy issues including, foreign direct and portfolio investment, infrastructure development, financial systems development and regional and economic integration.
